Walking prevents diabetes risk
Among people with low physical activity and a high risk of diabetes, those who walk throughout the day, are less likely to get this blood sugar disorder.
Experts suggest about 10,000 steps a day, and a good rule of thumb is that 2000 steps equals a mile.
Increased physical activity prevents weight gain and promotes weight loss, both of which are a determinant of diabetes risk.
Physical activity also has effects on inflammation, glucose and other molecules in the body that could help lower diabetes risk. However, potential benefits of moderate exercise are only for those who are really inactive to begin with, and doesn’t mean that others should decrease their activity levels.
