Sweet potatoes are semi tropical plants, they need warm frost free spots in a sheltered sunny position to grow well. 

Plant the tuber (available in nurseries now) in a pot, wait till they shoot to approx 20-30cms long, and cuts these off to plant in the ground. 

You can plant numerous cuttings for a good crop!
