Kevin and Jane’s Magic 1278 Breakfast Bookworms share their recommendations.

Annette: “The Call of the High Country” and “Return to the High Country”  by Tony Parsons
These novels follow  three generations of one family struggling to make a living on the land

Pete: “In Darkest Africa” by Henry Morton Stanley
The memoirs of the African explorer famous for finding missing fellow explorer, David Livingstone and uttering the immortal words, “Dr Livingstone, I presume!”

Jan: “Mao’s Last Dancer” by Li Cunxin
This autogbiography traces Li Cunxin’s life from boyhood, selected by the Chinese government to become a ballet dancer, to choosing to live a free life as an adult in Australia.

“The Two of Us” and “Just Me” by Sheila Hancock
The popular English actress writes of her life with beloved husband John Thaw, and of coping with life without him, following his death.

Barry: “Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves” by Matthew Reilly
A rollicking thriller set at an abandoned Soviet base in the Arctic, where the battle to save the world has begun!

Elaine: “The Swiss Family Robinson” by Johann David Wyss
The story of a family shipwrecked in the West Indies whilst enroute to Australia. Many of us read this at school, but Elaine says it’s even more powerful when you read it again as an adult.
