‘This recipe was given to me by my mother in law, she used it to take advantage of their prolific home garden.’
3 large onions
2 large Granny Smith apples
3 cups raw sugar
¾ cup sultanas
¾ cup raisins
1 tblsp whole cloves (in a little bag)
1 tblsp salt
Good pinch cayenne pepper
Good pinch ground ginger
5 cups brown vinegar
•Peel and chop the onions.
•Remove the skin from the tomatoes and chop them coarsely.
•Peel, core and dice the apples.
•Put all the ingredients into a pan, stir over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
•Bring to the boil and then simmer uncovered for 2-2½ hours or until thick.
•Remove the bag of cloves before turning into hot sterilized jars and sealing.
