Cyclists go bananas!
A new study in the United States has found that bananas are as effective as the sports drink Gatorade, in providing nutritional support to trained cyclists during prolonged and intensive exercise.
Heavy exertion induces transient inflammation, oxidative stress and immune dysfunction. Bananas are a great source of carbohydrates, nutrients and antioxidants.
Banana consumption over a short time, can give a feeling of fullness because of their high fibre content.
The research shows that in general, ingestion of bananas before and during prolonged and intensive exercise, is an effective strategy for supporting performance.
