Ric Ditchburn: What, me worry?

Posted by: By Ric Ditchburn, Magic 1278 | 1 May, 2009 - 1:39 AM
Ric Ditchburn is not going MAD over swine flu Remember Alfred E Newman the grinning mascot of MAD magazine?

I think he got it right. If there is anything that we humans are really good at it’s having a good worry. We worry about everything!

We worry about the way we look.

We worry that we don’t have enough money.

We worry when we have too much money (never known that one).

We worry when the kids don't come home when they are supposed to.

We worry that we won't be able to impress the neighbours - I know people who clean the house before the cleaning lady comes!

We worry about all kinds of weird and wonderful things.

But don't you think that at the moment we have quite enough to worry about?

Global warming.

Climate change.

We are running out of water.

Our trains never run on time.

Our streets are not safe.

We are running out of oil.

We are in the middle of the biggest financial crisis we have ever known.

And so it goes on and on and on.

And just when the pills started to work and you thought it was safe to go back in the water - SWINE FEVER !!!

Not "flu virus 3653754" … but SWINE FEVER.

And guess what … of course we don't have enough vaccine to go around.

Do you feel sometimes like you are in a movie?

Give me a break! I must go and drag out those old MAD magazines and see what "SPY versus SPY" would have done about all of this!?

Let me know what YOU reckon.

Blog comments Your Say

  • I reckon you are absolutely on the mark, Ric. Not only does it sometimes seem like a movie, but a bad one at that. Of course, I don't plan on contracting a case of swine flu here in Northern California (where you have lots of devoted fans of Magic 1278, by the way! We take advantage of the horrendous time difference to listen to you here livestream)anytime in the near or distant future. I have to admit, however, that your face superimposed over the image of MAD magazine's Alfred "What Me Worry?" Newman is enough to give me a bad case of the heebie-jeebies!
