ANZAC DAY... A salute to our heroes
ANZAC Day... the words so powerful in the Australian vocabulary, they can bring a tear to the eye, a lump to the throat and a feeling of Australian pride. Words that bring to mind those other unique Australian words that bore their origin in the trenches of Gallipoli in 1915 - 'Cobber', 'Digger', 'Fair Dinkum', 'True Blue', 'Mate'.
As ANZAC Day approaches, we remember these courageous Aussie men and women who took part in various conflicts throughout the twentieth century, right through to the present day.
To commemorate our heroes, Magic 1278 encourages you to share your ANZAC Day story, dedicate a message to these special Australians (both fallen and serving), post your personal memory or more... What it means to you to be a proud Australian!
Supported by VB, the Raise A Glass Appeal will aim to raise more than a million dollars to support Australian serving and ex-service men and women, and their families. The Raise A Glass Appeal begins this April, raising money and awareness for the RSL and Legacy's welfare programs.
For more information please visit www.raiseaglass.com.au
100% of the money raised will be distributed between the RSL and Legacy.VB will contribute $1 from VB cartons sold throughout April to the Raise A Glass Appeal and more than 1,500 kegs to pubs around Australia for Anzac Day celebrations, with the proceeds from the sale of these kegs also contributed.

I witnessed a beautiful moment at the Anzac day March on Saturday - 2 servicemen getting ready to march, 1 blind and using a cane when another veteran came up, linked arms and said you don't need that mate, i'll look after you - Lets remeber these guys for what they are - True Heroes

I wrote a poem on ANZAC. Hope it is not too long. Thanks.
ANZAC MEMORIES by Judi TurnhamExcitement filled the surrounding air
They were young and strong and free
They stood in line without a care
Ready to fight for you and me.Families were waving with tears flowing
They were sad and scared and proud
Young men in uniforms not really knowing
As they said goodbye to the crowd.Sam was one who went to war
With Bill and Wes and Paul
And together on Gallipolis shore
Fought in the dirt and sand and all.Zing went the bullets as they hit their mark
Down went one and two and three
And many more breathed their last
On a land just to keep us free.A sadder crowd was waiting in line
Where is he â they all seemed to cry
And amidst tears they search for a sign
Fewer numbers under an overcast skySam was the only one standing there
His mates, they all died that day
TheyâÂÂd given their all because they cared
What words were there to sayThere on the dock with grinning smiles
Was a wife, a boy and a girl
Calling âÂÂDaddyâ and the many miles
Disappeared in a dance and a whirl. And every ANZAC day we march
As proud as that very first day
To thank our heroes as they walk past
Thank You seems not enough to say.ANZAC is not about glorifying war
Or reveling in killings and guns
But to thank those brave who left our shore
To save our Aussie land under the sunJudi Turnham Wednesday 22 April, 2009 - 5:52 PM -
