I spotted the City Council workers raking up all the autumn leaves around the town and it is timely to remind you that autumn leaves are great in the compost.

If they are too big, e.g. Plane tree leaves, you can mow over them to chop them up finer so they will decompose quicker.

A small amount of leaves can be put into a black plastic bag with holes in the bottom and they will usable as a mulch in spring.
